Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 09/13/2024

Number: 1

I was walking on our rural road, when I spotted a monarch butterfly flying in the direction of this field.

I left the road and headed to this very large area, filled with golden rod and asters at peak. This is a perfect fuel stop for monarchs and so many other insects. (I've seen, photographed or tagged monarchs from this field every migration season.)

The total area is many times the size of this sample patch photo.

During migration times, I walk the trails in this section, looking for monarch, and I usually find several.

On this day, locating this one monarch was like looking for a needle in a haystack.

I'll keep checking during during September, hoping to use a last tag I saved from the 2023 migration season.
