Summary of the Year.
Wow, I can't believe we are in the fall migration as it seemed like yesterday we were awaiting our first monarchs to arrive.
We have a wonderful patch of swamp and butterfly milkweed for them to get attracted to and devour. I always grow more each spring and plant around the house.
My wonderful wife works very diligently all summer looking for caterpillar eggs, and providing fresh milkweed to our encaged monarchs.
This year it seemed harder to find caterpillars but we found eggs and hatched those in our cage, as well as any caterpillars we detected.
Out of the 37 we had one that didn't hatch, and one with wing deformities, otherwise the others were very healthy. The last generations are beautiful, strong, and with a desire to head to the migration fields in Mexico.
The season started very thin not seeing very many monarchs. By the end of the season I was seeing a bigger population so hopefully that's a good sign.
I hope our small little part of protecting these beautiful monarchs helps the population because they are such a magnificent species of life.
Thanks to every volunteer who helps these beautiful creatures and save them from extinction.
