Arrived to the tip of Point Pelee National Park approximately 19:10. Beautiful blue sunshiny sky. Again today, wind from the east. Weather app on my phone at 18:49 indicated wind 86° at 13 km/h with gusts up to 23 km/h. High-pressure system still in place and plenty of wave and wind action on the east side of the tip. Concentrated my efforts on the west side. Following the route that the tip shuttle would take, I observed a Monarch flitting about, adjacent to the west shoreline, in an area with wildflowers in bloom. Following his indecisive flight, he alighted in a Cottonwood, then a Hackberry and then back to the Cottonwood, where this photo was taken. The spot he chose had a south-eastern exposure. Using my binoculars, I was able to determine that he had significant damage to his forewing. I am guessing that he is the same individual I saw yesterday. He is clearly not migrating. Spoke to a few other visitors who had not seen any Monarchs. Environment Canada conditions at Pelee station at 19:00: 21°C, humidex 28°C, humidity 87%, Dewpoint 19°C, barometric pressure 101.5 kPa
I am really hoping that the Monarchs are out there somewhere travelling safely.
