With windows fogged up after rain/humidity yesterday I could see the same adult male rubythroat around 7 a.m. on fedder in photo. He was able to stay on feeder before the small agressive sub adult male rubythroat charged in. He guards all day the 7 foot tall purple gurantica, charges into patio plants. Purple gurantica is growing with mixed in Amistad a hybridized salvia that only gets 3 feet here. These plants are perinals in our zone and come back every spring. Rockin deep purple, and purple Hummingbird falls just can't take heat for past 3 years so they die out.
The others rubythroats are sub adult males still here also chasing around plants. They are outback, in front, on west side of house where Hamelias have grown to 8 feet. All guarding feeders. 97 degrees predicted today. There could be more but it's too hot to sit out to see.
A lot of rain this past year. We will be glad when la nina finally takes over with less rain. Its hard to make reports brief as requested because so much goes on for us that have a lot of hummingbird activity.
