During a 23 minute period just after noon, 72F, sunny, light south wind, observed six adult monarchs directionally flying south-southwestward, all glided a long way down toward me from over the top of the treeline to the north and continued past, the fifth and sixth individuals made very brief stops in meadow near faded goldenrod and milkweed patches as if seeking nectar (barely managed to capture the pictured one passing faded goldenrods). Later in the day observed four more monarch flyers, two heading deliberately southward and two flying around the meadow as if seeking nectar and possibly looking to roost in the nearby woods, for a total of ten monarchs observed here today, while typically seeing one flyer per day the past ten days just by chance observation during my normal daily activity here.
[I have a full season of monarch, milkweed, and hummingbird reports yet to submit for 2024, plus the end of 2023, but have been somewhat discouraged by University of Wisconsin's problems and apparent lack of engagement with and commitment to the projects, though I was slightly encouraged by the report of researchers using the data.]
