Monarch PEAK Migration
Sightings report image

Date: 09/20/2024

Number: 40

Traveling from Osceola to Stillwater and back again, we counted 8 monarchs traveling directionally south.
Later, we saw another 8 traveling from Horse Creek to Standing Cedars South.
We began counting monarchs during the walk through Standing Cedars South and the New England Asters.....finally quit counting because the monarchs were almost everywhere (feeding on the asters).
Today is the peak migration day for this area (Northwest Wisconsin).
The late hatch to the north was playing out today thanks to two weeks of temperatures into the 80s and southerly winds.
Cold front predicted sometime Saturday perhaps, with temps dropping to 51 Saturday night.
Still a mile south wind predicted for Saturday, so I will be looking for monarchs and if they are still here, there should be significant roosting in clusters.
Will report on that if it happens...........
