Hummingbird, Nectaring from Flowers

Date: 09/23/2024

Number: 12

We are down to about a dozen or so juveniles, both male and female. They spend their days playing and defending their territories. Most of these youngsters are from 2nd clutches, as the majority of the first clutch youngsters are on they way south. There are still lots of flowers blooming for this munchkins. And I'm still maintaining 11 feeders around the property, so there is much less fighting now that they have the place to themselves. While I miss the others, this is always a sweet time as these juveniles have the ability to interact with me w/o being chased away, for the most part. They are so curious and friendly. Many of them follow me around and will hang out with me when I'm out in the gardens. I'm able to get to know their individual personalities, behaviors, and favorite perching spots. Most of the juveniles from the 2nd clutches each year get names and so many from previous years return and continue to remain friendly with me as adults. It's super cool. These little ones will continue to trickle out until the middle of October, when my last will leave. We pray for their safe travels, as we do for all of our migrating friends as well. Godspeed, dear ones.
