I could be mistaken but I do believe this is a Monarch egg. I found this one and another right after we had a Monarch enjoying the milkweed. She stayed over half the day.
A couple weeks back we had 2 caterpillars, but sadly neither one made it. One made it to the chrysalis stage but it got ripped open during a hurricane that made landfall on Louisiana, our neighboring state to the west. After the one got torn open, I never saw the other one again. I had no idea the emotional roller-coaster I have created. My 4 yr old son just loves bugs so I went and got some milkweed plants. Even ordered 1500 ladybugs, none of which stuck around by the way, to help with the aphid infestation.
Everytime I go to pull up the milkweed I find a wonderful new creature now calling the plants home.
Now we've got 2 eggs so the milkweed is staying. Me and my son have throughly enjoyed watching them and searching for them. Can't wait to see what happens with the eggs.
