A chance meeting with a monarch!

I went for a walk on our rural road around 12:45 PM. It was cloudy, but not raining, as it was on 9/24. The temperature was 64 degrees F. I did not expect to see a monarch, so I did not have my camera.

The monarch, with wings folded, was fueling up on an aster growing next to this south/north road. When it was finished, it flitted slowly and in a meandering pattern but clearly in a southward direction.
