Our ruby-throated hummers are gone! According to my wife the 3 that were present this morning left shortly after lunch time. This is the earliest departure date ever for us. Our previous early departure date was 9-26-2012 (first year we had hummingbirds frequent our yard). All birds seem to be migrating early. Saw large flock of swans on the Minnesota River. Very early for this. Hummingbirds at my brother's house in southern Minnesota left almost a week ago which is unheard of. So maybe winter will come early or perhaps the ruby-throats at our yard were racing to beat the hurricane in Florida. They were really tanking up this morning. Sad to see them go. I'm leaving a picture of a ruby throat nectaring while perched at a purple agastache. Picture is from back on Sept. 2. We'll leave the lights on and a couple feeders up for 2 more weeks. Hope you all had a good hummer season.
