I am pleased to report that this juvenile RTH (likely a male) has finally left our area here at Harmony Beach, Ontario as of noon Sep 28th. He was observed feeding heavily at the feeder throughout the morning of the 28th but has not been seen since. He arrived here about 2 weeks after all other birds had left and stayed around (I assume gathering strength) for his journey both from our flower gardens and the one remaining feeder. I was concerned that perhaps we were seeing a bird with some endocrine defects and that the hormones necessary to trigger the urge to migrate were not functioning properly. However, that he has now moved on, I can only conclude he was simply not ready. I hope that this information can help folks south of here know that there may be late migrants and your feeders and gardens are important and can help these later birds on their difficult journey.
