This is the same monarch caterpillar as entered 23 and 27 SEP 2024. Today it moved - probably during the night or early morning hours - from a tiny plant where it consumed all the leaves to this neighboring plant separated by only the width of one common milkweed leaf. But the path to new food must have been down and up stems or across intervening herbs. Late this day we snipped the leaf petiole and moved the leaf and caterpillar to a larger common milkweed plant about 2 feet across a fragrant sage shrub for (what we thought to be) better food supply.
