Despite attempting to move this caterpillar to a larger common milkweed stem for better food supply [ see: < https://journeynorth.org/sightings/query_result.html?record_id=1526695889 > ], the caterpillar crawled back to its apparently preferred stem during the night of 28/29 SEP 2024 and has since been where it wants to be despite human interference.

This seems very late for monarch caterpillars to be feeding in Maine; we will look at some of our own previous reports before we enter any data 1 OCT 2024
