Monarch Fall Roost
Sightings report image

Date: 09/29/2024

Number: 30

Point Pelee National Park Ontario Canada: Park's annual daily roosting Monarch count.

30 roosting in swamp white willow trees and other bushes in total were counted today by the group doing the sunset count hike down to the Point on the shore of Lake Erie, where Monarchs rest every year before making the exhausting flight over the lake & into Ohio, (passport not required).

Sadly, the thousands that used to appear here in previous years have been devastated - with this count at barely 30. On a couple of days in the last few weeks 0 - zero monarchs were found.

We can only hope that the efforts of many of us to increase habitat through milkweed planting will help them recover.
