Monarch PEAK Migration
Sightings report image

Date: 10/03/2024

Number: 676

Count as of 11:00
Today is the day. Southwest wind. Beautiful blue skies. Temperature in the mid 20s. Monarchs are attempting to cross the lake, but being blown north east. Finding their way back to the east Shoreline. One cluster at 100 and growing. East Beach is very inaccessible from the tip. Your best way to get here is to walk out to the east beach from the 42nd parallel sign, and be prepared to take your shoes off and get your feet wet. Walk Southward and you will be rewarded. I will do an amended report later. Numbers are growing as I am typing. Arrived to Point Pelee tip shortly after sunrise. With the strong southwest wind I headed to the east side. I would say there was about 150 that I was able to observe roosted. If the weather conditions do not change, there will be a roost along the east side of the tip this evening. Alas, I have to work afternoons
