Arrived to the tip area of Point Pelee National Park on October 2 shortly after sunrise. Spent a good 90 minutes checking all the usual and unusual spots looking for roosts from the evening of October 1. Conditions on the Weather app on my phone at 08:05: temperature 13°C with a windchill of 9°C, Wind 357° at 16 km/h with gusts up to 28 km/h, humidity 78%, dewpoint 9°C, barometric pressure 102 kPa and rising.
Encountered a visitor who was at the tip area on October 1 around midday. She indicated to me that there were about a dozen Monarchs flitting about on the west tip path. According to the nearest weather reporting station at Harrow AAFC, the winds around midday switched from north to south but back around to North by 17:00. That south wind could explain why the visitor saw the Monarchs flitting about near midday. The south wind would have held them in place until it switched back to the north when they would have continued across Lake Erie to Ohio. Hence, that is why I did not find any roosted.
