Sightings report image

Number: 1

I had the great pleasure of observing one female monarch butterfly laying multiple eggs on our swamp milkweed. Due to the fact that leaves were starting to drop off the plants we located at least 9-12 eggs and clipped the tops of the host plants and brought them into a protected tent on our screened in porch. We then provided them with 4 swamp milkweed plants from a local nursery and 9 caterpillars hatched on or around September 10th. All caterpillars became chrysalises on or just after September 25th. As of October 5th we are still waiting for the butterflies to complete their metamorphosis.
