Observed at least 15 monarchs early in the morning coming of roosts and flew to the ground to gain warmth and possible hydrate drinking dew off the grass. Sunny cool temps upper 50s, slight north wind. Several after warming up flew to the Aster to nectar. I watched from 0845 to 9:45 am many individuals take to the air and catch wind and thermals to begin heading south.
