Arrived to the tip area at Point Pelee National Park approximately 18:00 hours. Sunset 18:44.
Weather conditions, according to the app on my telephone: sunny with a temperature of 13°, 1° less than the high for today, no windchill, wind southwest 235° at 11 km/h with gusts to 16 km/h, humidity 59%, dewpoint 6°C, barometric pressure steady at 103 kPa.
It was a relatively nice, sunny day with clear blue skies and a high-pressure system in Essex County. There was a southwest wind so I thought there might be a chance of some Monarchs roosted at the tip. A little bit more windy on the west side than the east, so after a cursory check on the west including the trees near the shuttle loop and tip washrooms, I checked the known areas in the interior. Checked the likely spots along the east beach to no avail. I will be out of town on Friday, although it looks like a nice day for Monarch movement, if there are any out there. I will try to check again on Saturday evening. Please feel free to message me if you are at the park and you see Monarchs. There is a contact form in this report.
In the attached photograph is a raccoon who often keeps me company when I am on the east side. His favourite tree is the Hackberry as well. He frequently goes out on a limb to get the berries.
