Monarch PEAK Migration
Sightings report image

Date: 10/20/2024

Number: 500

Just one roost in a row of windbreak-pine trees. On the north side of tree, upper branches. Dozens of large roosts, all on north sides of trees. Blustery south winds continue. Actually netted a tagged butterfly which was tagged on this location on 10/17. Now wondering whether the increase In numbers is due to some monarchs hanging around with others joining them or whether a whole new group moves in every day and one straggler remained. Strong winds have been steady from the south for several days. Regardless, it has been a record year here.
