Monarch (OTHER Observations)
Sightings report image

Date: 10/21/2024

Number: 1

We noticed a lone monarch caterpillar in late September in our front garden, but we knew it was late in the season and doubted it would survive. About 4 weeks ago we saw this chrysalis formed on our siding. After weeks passed we assumed it probably died because we had several very cold nights. However it still seems healthy. Today I checked on it, and I’m starting to see the shape of wings inside the chrysalis. So, it seems like it’s managing to survive. I know this is very very late in the season so I’ll be curious to see if it emerges and manages to migrate before the temps drop consistently.
