Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 10/18/2024

Number: 1

I am a children's librarian and lead a nature club. On Friday, we were doing a fall scavenger hunt when one of the children found a monarch caterpillar. The milkweed that it was on was wilted and brown. We found a fresh milkweed leaf from another plant and put the leaf and caterpillar in an insect enclosure that I have. I took it to a local woman who raises butterflies and can properly take care of it. She updated me today and it has shed and is eating. If it makes it to the last instar, she's going to return it to the library so we can watch it change and release it, which we've done many times.
