With Hurricane Helene in the gulf approaching Florida's west coast, my last two hummingbirds, a male and female, left earlier than normal. I usually notice one would leave around 5 October and the other would visit my feeders daily for a longer stay. This year both visited feeders daily then suddenly both were gone. No sightings after October 7. The usually departure is around the 11th or 12th. They were noticeably plumped up. I even got to see them devour bugs in the air. I believe they migrated just in time. They are amazing creatures.
