We saw 20 caterpillars on our (purchased) swamp milkweed plant, from late August. We identified 6 chrysalises (all on daylily leaves), one of which emerged yesterday (Oct.24, 2024). It survived last night's wind storm and started pumping again as the sun came up. One of the remaining 3 has gone very dark and may emerge today. This is very late for Nova Scotia, is it not? Will they make it to Mexico? Other than planting the milkweed, we have not interfered with them at all. Thanks for your help. We have a little over an acre and are trying to encourage all the butterflies--especially the Monarchs. We plan to plant more swamp milkweed next year. Helen Tyson
