Monarch, Captive-Reared

Date: 10/23/2024

Number: 113

My last monarch butterfly of the season was released on 10/23/2024. Over the course of the 2024 season I raised and released 113 butterflies. This includes 63 males and 60 females. The beginning if the season was rough with OE and genetic defects that included completely split proboscuses and a fluid problem where some of the butterflies could not excrete any fluids including meconium. Their abdomens remained swollen and they were too heavy to fly. Caterpillers at the end of the season would reach instar 5 and stop eating for an unknown reason. I had 2 in with these caterpillars that became healthy butterflies.
