Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 10/23/2024

Number: 2

I read the article in High Country News and was urged to post my sightings from late October. I manage a private property near Redstone, Colorado. It's the site of a former industrial coal mine operations, so we are conducting restoration efforts to rehabilitate the landscape. We spotted monarch caterpillars two years ago, but this was the first year I've seen the butterfly. Ironically, the butterflies were captured on the invasive plumeless thistle blossom, which had a banner year in 2024, so was still in bloom in late October.
