We have 17 larvae in our outdoor classroom gardens. They are all on swamp milkweed located in two areas in our gardens. I observed four laying on rocks near the milkweed. I went to save one that was in our pond, but it moved onto a blade of grass within the pond. I then noticed two other caterpillars on the grass within the pond. I observed over an hour and they remained on the grasses.
