Monarch, Captive-Reared
Sightings report image

Date: 12/12/2024

Number: 2

Two Monarchs; one male and one female. During November they ate Aquatic and Tropical Milkweed. I cut my milkweed back in late November to prevent any more egg laying. Near the 4th and 5th instar, milkweed became hard to find in the garden. Due to the colder temperatures, the butterflies took longer to emerge. The male is smaller than the female because he didn't get as much milkweed. The female looks perfectly healthy. I hope to release these two soon when it gets warmer. All milkweed is now dormant or cut back.
