These 2 Rufus males and I think 1 female have stayed all Fall, 2024 and through today January 20th. I sterilize and make new nectar in 2 feeders about 20 feet apart every 4 days.
This is the first time I’ve had hummingbirds stay this long. As you are aware, zero rain has fallen and flowers seem scarce. I will maintain my feeders as long as they stay. Even the bug population (except those ants) seem scarce. I also see them bathing in my fountain as well.
My neighbors home is only 6 miles away and has 5 big feeders up. He seems to have a dozen or more hummingbirds draining his feeders every 4 days as well. His neighbors have more flowering plants as well. It’s amazing to see such a sight in January! In the spring throughout the fall, the feeders are drained in 2-3 days. He also has a fountain they enjoy.
