I kept the heater on feeder all night in 30's.
Male Rufous tried to go to heated feeder his usual 8:45 a.m. but couldn't land in a very heavy snow event for Houston. Probably his first snow event because I see a lot of male new feathers on his throat/back. He is a rust orange all over mostly, a good looker. Someone in Lake Jackson, Texas sent a Rufous photo in snow to local Fox network. That is a good sign for Rufous count.
It was fun watching this Rufous because heavy snow flurries were whipping around feeder and a big bother. Snow coming down since 4 a.m stopped at 10:15 a.m. where he could perch in peace. About 1.5 inches at my location accumulated on streets even.

It's now 1 p.m. melting snow in sun making icicles out back on wild bird feeders and house window awning. Song birds were smart and came to feeders 7 a.m. in heavy snow. Didn't bother them at all. But icicles do.
