Late this afternoon it seemed all the monarchs migrated to the yellow and pink thistles to fill up with nectar. There actually were four monarchs trying to nectar at once, but one flew off before I could get the photo. There is another yellow thistle nearby which also was hosting multiple monarchs at the same time. Yellow thistles (Cirsium horridulum), though quite dangerous-looking, are true nectar fountains for monarchs, other butterflies, bees, beetles and more ~ very important for pollinators.
