I've raised them indoors and outdoors for years. Bought a house and there were zero butterflies around. No neighbors have flowers or milkweed and it felt so uncomfortable to me. After these 5 months here I have planted so much milkweed. In SWFl they are here year round but now that they are coming back I have them all over the place front and back yard. I am happy. I just watched 6 to 8 of them in my backyard randomly dancing and enjoying the plants and water and eachother. It was so beautiful and I am happy now ?
