At 12:30pm it was 60 degrees F, sunny, with 24% humidity, and winds 14mph from the N. I observed nine individual monarchs as I walked about the pastures. They were nectaring from pink & yellow thistles and wild blackberry blossoms. I saw a lot of resting/sunbathing because of the chilly wind. There were several female monarchs milkweed-seeking and egg-laying.
Later at 2:30pm I went back out and saw a similar number of monarchs and similar behavior. It was now 65 degrees F. I saw females egg-laying and males sailing around patrolling.
This is a photo of a female monarch who was egg-laying but took a few moments to sip nectar from some blackberry blossoms ~ and to get some warm sunlight on her wings in an area protected from the wind.
