During the night we had freezing temperatures of 30 degrees F for many hours. This caused damage to the young milkweed plants (Asclepias viridis). I am estimating that half of the milkweed has some freeze-damage and that about 15% will not recover.
The affected milkweed plants showed darkening and shriveling to their leaves and bud crowns. Their stems also often tilted over. Like this photo example milkweed, most of the plants have monarch eggs on them. I think this plant, which is fairly well developed, will survive but may not flower.
