This is a follow-up photo to my Monarch Adult Sighted report. I observed this diligent gossamer-winged female monarch as she laid her eggs on multiple milkweed plants (Asclepias viridis). It was hard to get a clear photo of her as she was quick and also often hidden by grass or the milkweed itself. She is an example of the variation of wing conditions I have seen in the returning monarchs. Here she is seen checking out a slightly freeze-damaged milkweed with plenty of growth left and next to other good milkweed plants. She laid several eggs on the leaves of this milkweed and those nearby.
