I was walking out of my hotel room at 5:30 AM local time. There was a large Spotted Owl sitting on the edge of one of the buildings near the golf course calling out. I would estimate more than 14 inches tall -- no "ears" so I'm pretty certain of the identification. We traded calls for about 90 seconds, then I kept walking. The owl was gone when I came back 5 minutes later.
