This was a sunny day with light winds from the N, temps in the high 70's, and humidity around 35%. I observed at least 10 individual monarchs who were variously flying, nectaring, air-tussling, and with the females milkweed-seeking and egg-laying.
This is a photo of one of the egg-laying females. She was at one point chased by a male monarch. They spiraled a bit in the air, then she flew right past me and through the leaves of a large elm tree. The male lost her and I watched him (because I just happened to be so close) really check out the particular spot where she had first entered the tree. He spent several minutes flying around those leafy branches before giving up.
The milkweed (Asclepias viridis) is now flowering so this is another nectar source for the monarchs, along with the yellow & pink thistles, Texas dandelions (Pyrrhopappus pauciflorus), and lyre-leaf sage.
