Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 04/20/2025

Number: 4

Around 11:30am it was 79 degrees F, partly cloudy, with 73% humidity, and with strong winds 15mph from the S. Going around on a short jaunt, I came across four individual monarchs (two females & two males). The females were checking milkweed, egg-laying, and nectaring from yellow thistles. The males were patrolling the prairie plantains and milkweed patches.

This is a one of the female monarchs as she lays an egg on the developing seed pods of this milkweed (Asclepias viridis). Seed pods on some of the milkweed are just starting to occur. The other female monarch ended up laying a few of her eggs on this same milkweed plant. Both lay eggs on multiple plants and nectared from nearby yellow thistles.
