First monarch of year sighted at 1:21 pm in my garden. She(?) cruised through over the tops of my native perennials without stopping. In this section of the garden, both butterfly weed and swamp milkweed are about 6 inches tall. In bloom here: red twig dogwood, American cranberry bush, wild geranium, mayapple, wild blue phlox and blue wild indigo.
