Reporting for numerous people in my Facebook Group: Monarch Butterfly Guardians - southern California.
I and dozens of others in Los Angeles thru San Diego counties are seeing a total explosion of eggs and caterpillars this June, unlike anything I've seen in the last 6 years. I personally have 600% more than I had this time last year! I had 5 caterpillars mid-June in 2024. I currently have at least 30 to 40! I also have about 25 known chrysalids and last year I had about 4! Everyone in the Group are reporting, quite happily, that monarchs are propagating this year at a remarkable rate. This gives us all hope for a strong overwintering count this coming December. In the meantime, many of us have had to rush out and buy additional milkweed plants because my existing 20 plants are stripped to the stems!
