In the 6 years since I have planted narrow leaf milkweed around my home, I have astonished by seeing such robust numbers of adult Monarchs here! Sometimes 5 at a time! I’ve also had caterpillars galore munching on all the milkweed leaving copious amounts of black poop all over my patio. Because my milkweed is mixed with other plants in my garden, I have only found a few chrysalis hanging about.
I am shocked by these numbers because the overwintering reports on the west coast of California were so poor.
As I write this, there a 4 Monarchs flying in my yard…a first for me! Yea!!
