From the PSU Arboretum, we headed to our last intended stop at Tudek Park and its 3 acre Snetsinger Butterfly Garden in State College, PA. The garden provides a diverse ecosystem for at least a dozen bird species, over 30 resident species of butterflies, and some 90 species of native plants that serve as caterpillar hosts and provide nectar for adult butterflies. In particular, for Monarch Caterpillars, there are Common Milkweed, Swamp Milkweed, and Butterfly Weed plants. The photo included above provides a "group shot" of some of the many kinds of plants growing in the butterfly garden. And if you look really closely, you can probably spot some Common Milkweed plants among the group.
We spent about a half hour in the garden. As we left, at about 3:45 PM EDT, the air temperature was 79°F, the dew point was about 50°F, the humidity was about 36%, a light breeze of about 6 mph was blowing from the NE under sunny but hazy skies, and the air pressure was 28.80 inches and slowly dropping.
