During our half-hour search for Monarch eggs, larvae, chrysalises, and butterflies, as part of the "Marvelous Monarchs" presentation at Pennsylvania's "Bald Eagle State Park" on 8/22/2025, we noted at least a dozen Monarch Butterflies. For the most part, the Butterflies were in flight as individuals, each heading in no particular or common direction.
However, there was one Monarch Butterfly that landed near enough and long enough for me to take a distant photo (as seen above) while it was nectaring on a thistle.
During the time we were searching (~2:30 to 3:00 PM) the air temperature rose from about 77°F to 79°F, the dew point was about 54°F, the humidity dropped from about 44% to 40%, a light breeze of about 5 mph was blowing from the SW under partly cloudy skies, and the air pressure was about 28.72 inches and slowly dropping.
