2 monarchs together in common hackberry (Celtis occidentalis) on the west side of tree, approximately 8 meters above ground level. The second monarch, flew in area and the around tree, stopped at first roosted monarch, flew away, and then returned to roost next to first monarch.
ADDITIONAL OBSERVATION: A Red Spotted Admiral (Limenitis arthemis) was observed roosting 5 meters above ground level on west side of tree, approximately 4 – 5 meters to the south of monarchs. 69 degrees Fahrenheit (20.55 Celsius). Partly cloudy. Slight winds from east at 6 mph.
Adjacent to Henslow Trail, near Iron Bridge Trailhead, Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie (U.S. Forest Service).
