The monarch migration for 2025 is in full swing in Illinois. Went to check things out this evening before sunset and saw 50+ in the fields and edges of the fields before they started landing in the trees to roost for the night. We guesstimated 200-300 in the various oak trees mostly and surprisingly on the west side of the trees. Some with flashing clusters here and there of a dozen or so. Flying around like small bats looking for a nice place to land.
Wind out of the east at 9 mph and 79 degrees at 7:00 pm. It had been 89 degrees earlier in the day. Plenty of sawtooth sunflowers, Tall Boneset and golden rod to sip nectar from.
