4 Monarchs observed in eastern black walnut (Juglans nigra) scattered on different branches on south & west side of tree, 7 – 8 meters above ground. Numerous monarchs (40 – 50) observed exploring the prairie and this tree, but they departed for wooded area to the west. No definitive roost located in the wooder area from the periphery.

80 degrees F (26.67 C). Sun setting. Sunny with sun setting on horizon. A lot of shadows. Light winds at 7 mph with gusts up to 12 mph from the east, RH 66%, Dew Point67. Sunset scheduled for 1902.

In Explosives Road Trailhead Area (Gate 10) at Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie (U.S. Forest Service).
