Had at least 6 ruby-throated hummingbirds packing on energy all day from nectar feeders, flowers, and insects. At least 3 adult females, an immature male and 2 others. They are getting ready to head south. They were nectaring on almost all the flowers: black-and-blue salvias, a purple salvia (which the Rthb's have pretty much ignored until now), same for pink verbena, purple agastache and cigar flowers. And they tolerate each other more as they feed. And they've figured out to go to the bee proof feeders. Very fun when they come inches from my face to check out what I am. Cutoff for feeding today was 7:30 p.m. cdt. Tomorrow will probably be a sub-7:30 cutoff.
