Monarch Fall Roost
Sightings report image

Date: 09/18/2025

Number: 35

Joined the evening Monarch hike at the tip area of Point Pelee National Park. After arriving at the Tip Exhibit area and observing two Monarchs fluttering around but ultimately heading south towards the tip, I headed there as well. There were some Monarchs arriving and fluttering around in the understory in the interior of the tip area south of the dangerous current poster. They came into this area singly and in pairs. All chose northern exposures between two and four metres up. Three in one Hackberry and three in another. One group of 2. Curiously, although they did not cluster, they were roughly aligned one under the other on separate branches. Was only able to locate six once they had settled. Unseasonably warm day and evening with clear skies. Very dry here. All wildflowers in the immediate vicinity of this roost are dried out. Other nectar sources in the park further north. Reports from Park visitors of Monarchs being sighted in the area through the day, nectaring in Sparrow Field. No roosts observed there.
Weather conditions recorded at the Point Pelee weather observing station at 19:00: 23.3°C, Humidex 30°C, relative humidity 86%, dewpoint 19°C, barometric pressure 101.7 kPa
Wind recorded at Harrow AAFC: SW 4 km/h
All observations done with binoculars and the naked eye. The number recorded above is the official count from the park.
