Monarch Fall Roost
Sightings report image

Date: 09/25/2025

Number: 90

Starting at 7:01 pm and continuing observations for twenty minutes, I noticed a few flying Adult Monarch Butterflies and then observed roosting of many individuals with as many as 16 individuals on a branch (see photo). The ones observed were 7 to 15 feet from the ground, mostly in the dropping branches of Silver Maples, with a few in Eastern Red Cedars and Redbud trees. While looking at the open sky between the rows of trees, at least one Monarch could be observed flying every few seconds. I realize I’d be counting these flying individuals twice or more so the count is based mostly on the roosting Monarchs found. There was no wind blowing. The temperature was around 70 degrees F.
