Hummingbird Sighting
Sightings report image

Date: 10/02/2025

Number: 2

At least 2 ruby-throated hummingbirds still roaming the yard for insects. For whatever reason flowers are the preferred nectar source: black-and-blue salvias, cigar flowers, purple agastache, and red-orange lantana. Hardly any nectaring at feeders. I'm virtually certain there are more than 2 ruby-throats around but don't seem to see more than 2 at a time. There was some chasing going on. Where this hummer is perched has been a favored spot for the ruby-throats all summer and this fall. I almost missed this evening's feeding cutoff at 7:04 p.m. cdt. I hadn't seen any feeding for several minutes and stepped out on our deck to check and a little rthb zipped up over me and the house. It is a nice surprise now to wake up and still see hummingbirds.
